b.) A study involves analysing variation in the retail prices of a commodity in three principal cities-Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi. Three shops were chosen at random in each city and retail prices (in rupees) of the commodity were noted as given in the following table:

At significance level of 5%, check whether mean price of the commodity in the three cities are significantly different. (Given F (critical) with 2 and 6 as numerator and denominator degrees of freedom, respectively at 5% level of significance to be 5.14)

2. A study involves testing whether or not the amount of caffeine consumed affected memory. Fifteen volunteers took part in this study. They were given three types of drink (type A,B and C) containing different levels of caffeine (50 mg, 100 mg, and 150 mg, respectively). Volunteers were divided into three groups of five each and were assigned the drink groupwise. They were then given a memory test (In terms of number of words remembered from a list). The results are given in the following table:

At significance level of 5%, check whether the mean number of words remembered from the list by the participants belonging to the three groups are significantly different.

1. क) निम्नलिखित डेटा के लिए सहसंबंध गुणांक की गणना और निर्वचन करें :

ख) सहसंबंध गुणांक के महत्त्व ( significance level) के परीक्षण के लिए चरण दर चरण प्रक्रिया की व्याख्या करें।

2. क) इस बात को लेकर एक शोध अध्ययन किया गया कि क्या उपभोग की गई कैफीन की मात्रा याददाश्त को प्रभावित करती है ? इस अध्ययन में 15 प्रतिभागियों ने हिस्सा लिया । इन्हें तीन प्रकार के (A, B तथा C) पेय दिये गये जिनमें कैफीन की मात्रा के तीन स्तर (50mg, 100: mg तथा 150 mg) थे । प्रतिभागियों को 5-5 के समूह बनाकर तीन भागों में विभक्त किया गया। उन्हें एक स्मृति परीक्षण दिया गया। इसके परिणाम निम्नलिखित तालिका में दिये गये हैं:
