1. कोई दुकानदार 20 या कम वस्तुएँ खरीदने पर प्रत्येक वस्तु के लिए 25 रुपये लेता है। यदि वस्तुएँ अधिक खरीदी जाती है तो वह कुछ छूट देता है। यदि 50 या कम वस्तुएँ खरीदी जाती है, तो वह प्रति वस्तु 1 रु. की छूट देता है; तथा 50 से अधिक वस्तुएँ खरीदने पर प्रति वस्तु 2 रु. की छूट देता है। लागत फलन ज्ञात कीजिए। किन बिंदुओ पर यह फलन संतत नहीं है।
2. कोई स्टीरियो (stereo) निर्माता निर्धारित करता है कि एक नए स्टीरियो की x इकाइयो को बेचने के लिए, मूल्य प्रति इकाई (रुपयो मे) p(x) 1000x होना चाहिए। वह निर्माता यह भी निर्धारित करता है कि x इकाइयों को निर्मित करने की कुल लागत C(x)= 3000+ 20x द्वारा दी जाती है।
